In South Africa is a huge amount of the population still living in poverty in the so-called “townships” around the big cities – Such as Cape Town. These townships are the result of many years of the apartheid regime, which was abolished in 1994. The population living in the townships is living a primitive lifestyle, often without running water or electricity. This is why a visit to the township is a very overwhelming experience, as it shows the “dark side” of South Africa. Even though the environment for some can seem very miserable, the citizens of the townships are very pleased, welcoming, and accommodating.

You will have the opportunity for visiting a private home, where you can explore the local environment and give the students in one of the schools and exciting visit. When you are a tourist visiting the townships, you are participating in improving the conditions for the area, where excising projects are created, regarding creating better homes and better schooling for the kids.
